Job Summary

Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team providing healthcare in inpatient and/or outpatient health care settings. Didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice. Manages women's health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the post‑partum period, care of the newborn, and the family planning and gynecologic needs of women. Practice within the health care system and perform consultation, collaborative management, or referral, as indicated by the health status of the patient.

Considers the interpersonal, inter‑relationship of gender, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, economic status and socio‑political power differentials. With advanced knowledge of nursing theory and its application, the CNM demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsibility for life‑long professional development and competency validation. Practice in accord with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse‑Midwives.

Position

Hours
  • 0.8 FTE
  • Mix of 12‑hour Labor & Delivery hospital shifts (7a–7p and 7p–7a, Sunday–Saturday) and 8‑hour clinic shifts (8a–5p, Monday–Friday); hospital/clinic split approximately 50/50.
  • Providers typically work around 13 shifts per month: e.g., 6 clinic/7 hospital in one month, 5 clinic/8 hospital in another.
Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document a health history; perform and document a complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provide healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manage patient’s overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Order, perform, interpret and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribe therapeutic interventions—both pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic—needed to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Utilize evidence‑based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care; initiate appropriate referrals and consultations; provide specialty‑specific consultation services upon request and within scope of practice; facilitate patient transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring and discharging patients.
