Advanced Practice Provider – Burn Unit
Operating within Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Surgery (Inpatient) Burn Unit, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works closely with physicians and other providers to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care to hospitalized pediatric and adult burn patients. The position is part‑time (0.25 FTE) one 8‑hour day per week (0600 – 1430).
Key Responsibilities- Obtain and document a comprehensive health history and perform a system‑focused or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
- Provide primary, acute, and complex care; manage overall patient care and identify expected outcomes for diagnoses.
- Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, diagnostic information, and procedures when indicated.
- Formulate differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
- Prescribe therapeutic interventions—including pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical—as needed.
- Utilize evidence‑based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
- Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations.
- Provide specialty‑specific consultation services within scope of practice.
- Facilitate patient transitions between and within health care settings, including admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Health Systems and Policy Management – demonstrate commitment to professional development, ethical practice, and participation in relevant professional organizations.
- Patient and Family‑Centered Care – deliver compassionate care, manage diagnosed and undiagnosed patients, and incorporate cultural and spiritual preferences.
- Clinical Knowledge and Practice – maintain current evidence‑based knowledge and educate patients, families, and team members.
- Practice‑Based Scholarly Inquiry – use scientific evidence to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills – establish and maintain professional relationships and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Professionalism – uphold continuous professional development, ethical practice, and community engagement.
Certifications required: LIC‑Nurse Practitioner – Tennessee, LIC‑Physician’s Assistant – Tennessee, or LIC‑Registered Nurse – Tennessee. Prior APP experience is required.
Education:
Master’s degree in an applicable field.
Work experience:
< 1 year of relevant clinical experience.
