Advanced Practice Provider – Trauma Surgery
OverviewLocated in Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital provides a Level 3 Trauma Service that combines Trauma Surgery and General Surgery. The role is part of a rapidly growing service where APPs work collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based patient care.
Job SummaryThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a key member of the multidisciplinary health‑care team, managing hospitalized trauma and general surgery patients. The APP works a mid‑shift schedule (10 AM–10 PM) three days per week, with future flexibility to shift to day or night and weekend coverage.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain and document a complete health history; perform and document a comprehensive physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
- Provide primary, acute, and complex patient care, managing overall outcomes and expected diagnoses.
- Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
- Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
- Prescribe therapeutic interventions—pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical—required to achieve expected outcomes.
- Utilize evidence‑based practice protocols in planning and delivering care.
- Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations.
- Provide specialty‑specific consultation services within the scope of practice.
- Facilitate patient transitions between and within health‑care settings, including admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Collaborate with the team to maintain high‑quality documentation and comply with all regulatory standards.
- Licensure:
Licensed Nurse Practitioner – Tennessee, Physician Assistant Certified – Tennessee, or Registered Nurse – Tennessee. - Experience:
Relevant clinical experience in trauma or surgical settings; less than 1 year preferred. - Education:
Master’s degree in a health‑science discipline.
