Position OverviewRegistered Nurse – Medicine Stepdown (Travel Nurse – Staffing Collaborative). Nurses work 13‑week assignments in a specific unit, with the possibility of switching between the Vanderbilt University Hospital and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital role requires the nurse to plan and manage complex patient care, deliver patient and family education, collaborate with the healthcare team, and consistently apply evidence‑based practice. Nurses may float across entities to meet unit coverage needs and may work weekends and holidays as required.

Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, TN;
Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt (moves within assignment possible).
- Registered Nurse license in Tennessee.
- Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific nursing program.
- Minimum 1 year of Medicine Stepdown RN experience; preferred 2 or more recent years.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- General competencies include patient education, assessment & evaluation, care planning, and evidence‑based practice.
- Collaborate on establishing plans of care, coordinate and implement care delivery, and anticipate patient needs across the continuum.
- Analyze comprehensive patient information to determine nursing diagnoses.
- Use the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions for effective outcomes.
- Employ strategies to promote health and maintain a safe environment.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Technical Capabilities (Novice)
- Care Planning:
Anticipate resource needs, identify tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments with minimal disruption. - Nursing Patient
Education:
Provide practical patient education of moderate difficulty. - Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation:
Perform primary care interviews, physical examinations, recognize problems, gather clinical data for referral and treatment pathways. - Evidence‑Based Practice:
Search for evidence to answer clinical questions and conduct assignments under guidance.
