Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Clinical Decision Unit night shift position in Hermitage, TN, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and ACLS certification.

• Active TN or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or progressive care RN experience
• Strong critical thinking skills with EKG rhythm interpretation ability
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
• Experience with BiPAPs, high-flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems required
• Experience with stroke and post-cardiac cath patient care required
• Peripheral IV skills required
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

• Located in a hospital-based PCU/Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) serving a progressive care patient population
• Unit spans two cost centers: dept 630 (34 beds) and dept 633 (25 beds)
• Patient ratios are 1:4–1:5 on days and 1:5–1:6 on nights
• Tech support available: 3 techs when full on dept 630 and 2 techs when full on dept 633
• Equipment used includes BiPAPs, high-flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis equipment, and wound vacs
• EMR system is Meditech
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend requirement
• Floating may be required between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• 13-week contract
• Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting
• Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred but not required
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes is preferred
• Patient experience standards include hourly rounding on days, every-2-hour rounding on nights, AIDET communication practices, and communication board maintenance
• Unit uses self-scheduling with 4-week schedule blocks
• Black scrubs required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• The unit has a strong teamwork and family-like culture; many travelers extend their contracts after their first assignment on the PCU
