Position: Registered Nurse, Full Time, Neuro Stepdown, Nights- VUH

Job Summary

Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.

Unit Focus

The Neuro Stepdown unit cares for adult patients age 18 and older with acute neurological conditions such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, subdural, epidural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, seizures, Guillain‑Barre syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis exacerbation, meningitis and encephalitis, spinal cord injury, cerebrovascular intervention, and brain/spinal tumor resection. The team collaborates with specialized nurses and teams supported by state‑of‑the‑art equipment and technology.

Shift

Full‑time night shift: 7:00pm–7:00am, three times per week for a total of 36hours per week, including some weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient’s progress toward goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Technical Capabilities (Novice)
  • Care Planning
    :
    Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Handles multiple assignments simultaneously while prioritizing work into manageable units; adapts to changes with minimal disruption.
  • Nursing Patient Education
    :
    Proficient in providing patient education in moderate‑difficulty practical applications.
  • Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation
    :
    Can successfully assess and evaluate patients in moderate‑difficulty practical applications; conducts primary care patient interviews and physical exams, recognizes problems, asks questions, and contacts primary providers and team members.
  • Evidence‑Based Practice
    :
    Can search for evidence to answer clinical questions; works under direction while accomplishing assignments.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License (licensure: other authorized forms accepted).
  • Relevant work experience: minimum 1 year post‑licensure in a medical‑surgical or similar setting.
  • Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program.
