Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse on the Pulmonary Stepdown applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The RN communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team, collaborates in establishing patient goals, evaluates progress to ensure outcomes, and engages in professional growth activities per Board of Nursing standards.
ShiftNights; 7 pm‑7 am; 36 hours per week; 3 12‑hour shifts per week, including some weekends. Self‑scheduling is offered.
- M‑F 7 pm‑10 :30 pm – $3 additional to hourly base
- M‑F 10 :30 pm‑7 am – $3.50 additional to hourly base
- Saturday/Sunday – $6 additional to hourly base
We are located on the 8th floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital. The unit cares for adult patients (18 – 100+ y) post‑lung transplant, post‑lung transplant complications, pulmonary hypertension, post‑endoscopic lung volume reduction procedures, interstitial lung disease exacerbations, transplant‑listed patients, and ECMO graduates. The population requires a multifaceted approach to care.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates care delivery while anticipating patient needs across the continuum.
- Analyzes comprehensive information to determine nursing diagnosis.
- Utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and applies interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
- Employs strategies to promote health and a safe, healthy environment.

- Care Planning (Novice):
Anticipates resource needs, sets priorities, schedules activities, and meets deadlines while managing multiple assignments. - Nursing Patient Education (Novice):
Provides patient education in moderate‑difficulty practical applications. - Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice):
Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations; recognizes problems and gathers clinical data for referral. - Evidence‑Based Practice (Novice):
Searches for evidence to answer clinical questions under direction of others.
