Vanderbilt Tullahoma‑Harton Hospital (VTHH) and Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital (VBCH), Tennessee. Nights, 3 shifts per week. Relocation available for candidates over 100 miles.

Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, delivering expert care in the Critical Care setting. The role involves managing high‑acuity ICU patients with unstable conditions, requiring intensive oversight, frequent rounding, and specialized care. Patients are primarily in medical and surgical ICUs with complex needs requiring advanced interventions.

The APP is responsible for managing complex conditions, ensuring safe, high‑quality care, documenting promptly and compliantly, and engaging in ongoing professional development and competency validation. The APP combines evidence‑based practice with clinical expertise to meet the unique needs of critical care patients.

Desired Experience
  • Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Prior APP or ICU experience preferred
  • Comfortable working independently in a rural or community health setting and building relationships with new teams
Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document a health history; perform a complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
  • Provide primary, acute, and complex patient care, managing overall care and identifying expected outcomes.
  • Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, diagnostic information, and procedures.
  • Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribe therapeutic interventions, including pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical, to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Utilize evidence‑based practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations.
  • Provide specialty‑specific consultation services within scope of practice.
  • Facilitate patient transitions between and within health care settings, including admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Practice‑Based Scholarly Inquiry – Investigation, evaluation, and improvement of patient care practices using evidence‑based methods.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills – Effective oral and written communication with patients, families, and team members.
