Job Summary

The Oncology Research Nurse Specialist 2 ensures the integrity and quality of clinical research trials, plans and implements recruitment procedures, manages enrollment, and ensures compliance with protocols.

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • 1+ year of oncology nursing experience
  • 1+ year of research experience
  • Ability to analyze and deconstruct clinical trial protocols
  • Extremely detail oriented nursing experience
  • Ability to interpret and navigate clinical trial protocols
  • Proficiency in leveraging technology and digital tools
  • EPIC experience
Key Responsibilities
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations governing human subject research and incorporates them in the conduct of research and care of participants.
  • Proficiently prepares and processes new research proposals, amendments, continuing review applications and adverse events.
  • Performs administrative duties for trials, including procuring equipment, preparing documentation, and packaging and shipping medications.
  • Utilizes nursing skills to perform procedures, deliver individualized care, and abide by research protocols; identifies and implements solutions when problems arise.
  • Performs procedures required by each study protocol, understands standard of care versus research, and continually assesses the need for additional protections for participants.
  • Recruits and identifies eligible candidates, regularly assesses eligibility, and troubleshoots recruitment strategies to ensure trials are completed timely.
  • Provides education and training to appropriate personnel and participants in research-specific methodology and procedures.
  • Utilizes knowledge of disease processes to observe for and report adverse events to the principal investigator and regulatory authorities as required by protocol, policies, procedures and regulations.
Technical Capabilities
  • Scientific Knowledge (Novice):
    Knowledge of different scientific studies including but not limited to biomedical, applied, and physical.
  • Regulatory Compliance (Novice):
    Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations, applies them in difficult, stressful, and complex situations, interprets and explains ambiguous or unclear rules, directs others in interpretation and trains them.
  • Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice):
    Demonstrates proficiency in assessing and evaluating patients in moderate-difficulty practical applications, conducts primary care interviews and physical examinations, recognises problems, and contacts the patient’s primary care provider and other team members.
  • Nursing Patient Education (Novice):
    Demonstrates proficiency in providing patient education in moderate-difficulty practical applications.
  • Care Planning (Novice):
    Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work; handles multiple assignments, adapts to changes with minimal disruption, and follows up to resolve issues.
  • Evidence-based Practice (Novice):
    Demonstrates proficiency in searching for evidence to answer clinical questions, generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
Position Qualifications
  • Licensure: LIC-Registered Nurse
  • Work Experience:

    Relevant work experience with 1 year level
  • Education:

    Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program
