Job Summary
The nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) will work within the outpatient clinic setting alongside the General Hepatology Clinic faculty and staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This NP/PA will see patients independently as well as working alongside MDs in providing care for hepatology patients, primarily return patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment of health status
- Perform and document a complete history and physical examination for outpatient patients
- Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, supporting diagnostic information, and diagnostic procedures where indicated
- Formulate differential diagnoses by priority
- Diagnose complications and order appropriate interventions
- Implement and modify plan of care
- Document clinical encounters
- Demonstrate professional practice behaviors including precepting, mentoring, education of students, nursing staff, and other health professionals
- Seek opportunities for active engagement in research and evidence‑based practice analysis
- Actively participate in Grand Rounds, Advanced Practice Nurse council meetings, faculty and unit meetings, and case presentation sessions
- Maintain continuing education units (CEUs) and membership in professional organizations
- Health Systems and Policy Management:
Demonstrate fundamental proficiency in ethical practice, continuous professional development, and participation in professional organizations. - Patient and Family Centered Care:
Provide compassionate, appropriate, and effective care; manage patients within scope of licensure, conduct assessments, prescribe medications, and use EHR. - Clinical Knowledge and Practice:
Apply biomedical and social science knowledge to patient care and education. - Practice‑Based Scholarly Inquiry and Integration:
Use evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care practices. - Interpersonal and Communication
Skills:
Establish and maintain professional relationships; communicate orally and in writing. - Professionalism:
Display continuous professional development, ethical practice, and participation in committees and organizations.

- Registered Nurse – Tennessee
Relevant work experience required.
