Job Summary And Qualifications

The Cardiology Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. The cardio‑vascular nurse RN possesses advanced knowledge and skill in cardiac nursing, and will demonstrate critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient.

What You Will Do In This Role
  • Use critical thinking skills to assess facts and make rational decisions quickly and effectively when working with patients who have heart complications.
  • Participate as part of an interdisciplinary care team in the treatment of cardiac–vascular conditions such as heart failure, heart valve disorders, high blood pressure, vascular disorders, heart attack and arrhythmia.
  • Interpret data and respond to urgent situations in a way that optimizes patient care and produces positive outcomes.
  • Perform and interpret various cardiac and vascular lab tests.
  • Work closely with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists, and other physicians in the care and treatment of the full range of cardiovascular conditions.
  • Participate in clinical trials and clinical research programs as per clinic needs.
  • Document legible and concise entries in the medical record.
  • Perform appropriate patient preparation for each visit and/or procedure.
  • Educate patients on cardiovascular diseases, including but not limited to preventive measures.
  • Assist in performing diagnostic tests such as ECGs and EKGs.
  • Initiate Holter and event monitors.
  • Interact with the patients as well as their families pre and post treatment.
  • Monitor the patient and their vitals, especially cardiovascular readings.
  • Possess knowledge of ACC/AHA guidelines related to heart failure.
  • Provide general nursing care to patients as necessary for office treatment.
  • Respond to and refer incoming telephone calls.
  • Post tests and examination results.
  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing is required.
Experience
  • Minimum of three years Cardiac RN experience in an acute care or cardiology clinic setting required.
Certification/License
  • BLS required upon hire.
  • ACLS required within 60 days of hire.
  • Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations.
  • Cardiac Medicine Certification (CMC) through American Association of Critical Care Nursing (AACN) preferred or.
  • Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification (CV‑BC) through American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) preferred.
