The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a key member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, collaborating closely with physicians and other care providers to manage a distinct patient population in the inpatient acute care setting. The APP delivers specialized care and supports the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based medical services, adhering to established clinical pathways and protocols to ensure safe and effective patient care.

The APP demonstrates advanced medical knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, and maintains timely documentation and professional development to uphold high standards of care.

Pediatric ENT inpatient care is centered at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt (Main Campus, 2200 Children’s Way, Nashville, TN). The Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery division offers highly specialized, child‑centered inpatient and outpatient care, handling over 6,000 surgeries annually.

• Obtain and document health history; perform and document complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examinations, assessments, and plans of care.
• Provide healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care of patients, managing overall care and identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Order, perform, interpret and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, diagnostic information, and procedures where indicated.
• Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.
• Prescribe therapeutic interventions—pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical—to achieve expected outcomes.
• Utilize evidence‑based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
• Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations.
• Provide specialty‑specific consultation services upon request and within scope of practice.
• Facilitate the patient’s transition between and within health‑care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Patient and Family‑Centered Care (Advanced) – Provides compassionate, effective care for health promotion, illness prevention, disease treatment, and end‑of‑life care, incorporating patient preferences and using the electronic health record for documentation.
• Clinical Knowledge and Practice (Advanced) – Applies evolving biomedical, clinical, and social science knowledge to patient care and education, maintaining current evidence‑based knowledge through continuous learning.
• Practice‑Based Scholarly Inquiry and Integration (Advanced) – Uses scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care practices, integrating knowledge across disciplines.
• Interpersonal and Communication Skills (Advanced) – Establishes and maintains professional relationships, communicating effectively in oral and written form.
• Professionalism (Advanced) – Demonstrates commitment to continuous development, ethical practice, and participation in professional committees and organizations.

• Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care (CPNP‑AC) or Physician Assistant (PA)
• Prior APP experience strongly preferred

• LIC‑Licensed Nurse Practitioner – Tennessee
• LIC‑Physician Assistant Certified – Tennessee
• LIC‑Registered Nurse – Tennessee

Relevant work experience with a preference for experience in pediatric acute care settings.

Less than 1 year

Master’s degree required.
