In‑Patient Nurse Practitioners – 30 positions

Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide care in acute and critical settings independently. Functions as an intensivist responsible for day‑to‑day management of critically ill newborns from admission to discharge.

15,000$ sign‑on bonus for candidates with 2 or more years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience (not applicable to current or former VUMC staff within the past 12 months). Bonus available only for full‑time positions.

• Obtain and document health history for a neonate; perform system‑focused or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
• Provide neonatal healthcare services for critically ill and complex patients; manage overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
• Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions in the neonatal population.
• Prescribe therapeutic interventions (pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, surgical) needed to achieve expected outcomes.
• Perform delivery room service and neonatal transport services; initiate referrals and consultations, and provide consultation services as requested within scope of practice.
• Facilitate patient transition between and within health‑care settings (admission, transfer, discharge).
