The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP provides healthcare in critical care settings, including surgical and medical ICUs. The NP has didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice. The NP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.The NP has an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and application.

Monroe Carell Jr. Children s Hospital at Vanderbilt is seeking APPs to join our highly specialized Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) team.
As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will work collaboratively with pediatric cardiac intensivists, congenital heart surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide exceptional care for infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital and acquired heart disease.
This position offers the opportunity to practice in a high-acuity environment while contributing to innovative patient care, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
About the PCICU
The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit provides comprehensive care for critically ill children with congenital and acquired heart disease. The team manages patients across the continuum of cardiac care, including:
Preoperative and postoperative congenital heart surgery
Complex cardiac medical management
Transplant care
Multidisciplinary cardiac critical care
Responsibilities
The APP will:
Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
Develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans
Manage critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in collaboration with attending physicians
Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic testing
Perform evidence-based clinical management and therapeutic interventions
Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges
Coordinate care across disciplines and care settings
Provide patient and family-centered education and support
Document care accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record
Participate in quality improvement, professional development, and scholarly activities
Qualifications
Required
For Nurse Practitioners:
Master s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Certification as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC)
Eligibility for Tennessee licensure and credentialing
For Physician Assistants:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
NCCPA certification
Eligibility for Tennessee licensure and credentialing
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatric critical care, cardiac critical care, or acute care
New graduate CPNP-AC candidates with pediatric RN experience
New graduate PA candidates with EMT experience and/or pediatric clinical rotation experience
Strong interest in pediatric cardiac critical care
