Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is seeking APPs to join one of the nation's premier neonatal programs, where Level IV care, academic resources, and APP-centered career development come together. Vanderbilt's NICU APP team is encouraged to participate in quality-improvement initiatives, continuing education, academic learning opportunities, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Providers have access to shared protocols, clinical resources, and ongoing educational programming designed to support professional growth at every career stage.

  • Practice at Tennessee's No. 1 children's hospital, which shares the No. 1 spot in the Southeast and is nationally ranked in 10 pediatric specialties.
  • Join a nationally recognized academic pediatric environment affiliated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
  • Be part of a hospital recognized for pediatric quality and safety, including Leapfrog Top Children's Hospital honors and a strong history of Magnet designation.
  • Work in a comprehensive pediatric referral center serving children, adolescents, and young adults across Tennessee and the wider Mid-South region.
  • Practice within a children's hospital connected to Tennessee's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center treating pediatric and adult patients, supported by pediatric clinical trials and research activity across common, rare, and complex cancers.

A Legacy of Neonatal Innovation

  • Join one of the world's pioneering neonatal intensive care programs, founded in 1961 by Mildred Stahlman, MD.
  • Practice in a 131-bed Level IV NICU, the highest designation awarded by the American Academy of Pediatrics, equipped to care for the most serious and complex newborn conditions providing care for more than 1,400 newborns annually.
  • Collaborate with a 24-hour specialized NICU team that includes neonatal physicians, APPs, pediatric specialists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, rehabilitation specialists, social workers, child life specialists, and other pediatric experts.
  • Work in a NICU environment connected to advanced neonatal care, ECMO expertise, quality improvement, education, and evidence-based practice.

  • Work 24-hour shifts and typically only seven shifts per month and access flexibility to split shifts with colleagues when needed.

  • Participate in monthly APP lectures, weekly educational sessions, and annual simulation programming.
  • Rotate through 11 specialized teams and develop broad neonatal expertise.
  • Competitive compensation, including a total sign-on package of up to $25,000 for qualified full-time candidates ($15,000 sign-on bonus plus $10,000 in relocation assistance if 100+ miles from Nashville)
