Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a key member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, collaborating closely with physicians and other care providers to manage a distinct patient population in the inpatient acute care setting. Working with hospitalized patients, the APP provides specialized care and supports the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based medical services. This role requires a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and clinical education, with the APP responsible for adhering to established clinical pathways and protocols to ensure safe and effective patient care.

The APP will demonstrate advanced medical knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, and professional communication skills. In addition, the APP is accountable for timely and compliant documentation and actively participates in professional development and competency validation to maintain high standards of care.

Inpatient Position Position Hours
  • Day Shift (6am - 6pm)
  • 13 12‑hour shifts per 4‑week block schedule
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • No call
Department Summary

Since its inception as a clinic in 1969 and a division in 1975, we have been dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education in pediatric hematology and oncology. Our mission is to improve the lives of children with blood disorders and cancer, advance discovery through research, and train the leaders of the future. Pediatric hematology/oncology is a diverse field which includes many areas, including but not limited to:

  • Cancer predisposition
  • Leukemia and lymphoma
  • Solid organ cancers
  • Brain and spinal tumors
  • Bone and soft tissue sarcomas
  • Retinoblastoma
  • Cancer survivorship
  • Precision medicine
  • Immunodeficiency
  • Non‑malignant hematology
  • Hemostasis and thrombosis
  • Sickle cell disease and thalassemia
  • Bone marrow failure
  • Vascular malformations

Across the many diseases within hematology and oncology, we provide state‑of‑the‑art clinical care and access to cutting‑edge therapies and clinical trials. Our faculty include nationally and internationally recognized leaders in the field. We are the only pediatric hematology/oncology program in the state of Tennessee with a unique combination of clinical programs in both hematology and oncology and access to all pediatric subspecialties all within our medical center.

Our clinical care is supported by a multi‑specialty, multidisciplinary specialty team of physicians, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, social workers, nutritionists, child life specialists, and others who all work together to provide evidence‑based family‑centered care.

Position Requirements
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care CPNP-AC or Physician Assistant PA
  • Prior APP experience strongly preferred
  • New graduate CPNP‑AC with pediatric RN experience or new graduate PA with EMT experience or pediatric clinical rotation experience
Key Responsibilities
  • Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents a complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
