Job Summary

Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.

Medicine Stepdown

Although our patient population serves adults, we are located on the 14th floor of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital  environment on our unit is friendly, focused on teamwork, and flexible to accommodate our patients’ needs. We care for adult patients 18 and older who are being treated for various medical diagnoses, including pulmonary, renal, hepatology, endocrine, and post‑procedural patients. Some of our patient population requires knowledge of wound care as well as care of patients on continuous medication drips, including insulin.

Shift

This is a full‑time day shift position. The shift is 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, three times per week for a total of 36 hours per week, including some weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient’s care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient’s progress toward goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe, healthy environment.

Technical Capabilities
  • Care Planning (Novice):
    Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Handles multiple assignments simultaneously by prioritizing into manageable units and adapts to changes in patient care with minimal disruption.
  • Nursing Patient Education (Novice):
    Provides fundamental proficiency in patient education for moderate‑difficulty practical situations.
  • Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice):
    Demonstrates ability to assess and evaluate patients, conduct primary care interviews and physical examinations, recognize problems, and gather clinical data for referral, treatment, or other pathways.
  • Evidence‑Based Practice (Novice):
    Searches for evidence to answer clinical questions and works under the direction of others to accomplish assignments.
