Substitution of Experience for
Education:
Experience in landscaping, irrigation, chemical fertilizer application, or golf course maintenance can replace the required education, on a year‑for‑year basis.
NSQs:
Must become a state‑licensed or certified Pesticide Applicator within 6 months of hire. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
The TSP Irrigation/Spray Technician primarily operates and maintains all irrigation and drainage systems on the golf course and grounds. This role includes the selection, application, and management of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers associated with grounds and golf course maintenance. The position is distinct from the TSP Course Groundskeeper, whose duties are less complex.
Responsibilities- Inspect turf, shrubs, lakes, and other outdoor areas to identify pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer needs; apply chemicals at appropriate times and document all applications.
- Participate in all aspects of golf course maintenance and occasionally supervise crews for special projects; ensure safety and direction of chemical handlers and helpers.
- Water greens, tees, fairways, roughs, lawns, and other areas per schedule; monitor daily water usage and inform the TSP Golf Course Superintendent of needed adjustments to irrigation computer settings.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and maintain accurate records of all irrigation and pesticide application equipment.
- Read, understand, and keep current with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs); maintain them in a convenient location and ensure chemical storage and mixing areas comply with regulations.
- Assist with record‑keeping for irrigation systems, including weather and rainfall data; compile reports of pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer usage.
