Mill Ridge Park is one of Nashville’s newest regional parks—622 acres of forests, pastures, trails, and farm areas located in the rapidly growing and diverse community of Southeast Nashville.

Friends of Mill Ridge Park is the nonprofit that helps this huge park thrive. We host fun and educational activities like:

    Program Operations and Park Conservation Intern
Internship Description and Learning Objectives

As a Program Operations and Park Conservation Intern, you’ll play a hands‑on role in making Mill Ridge Park a welcoming, vibrant space for the community. You’ll help run park programs and events, interact with visitors, support farm and trail projects, and contribute creative ideas that help the park grow.

Throughout the internship, you will learn:

  • How to engage and communicate with diverse communities
  • How to support activities and events—from planning to execution
  • The basics of marketing and documenting activities for social media
  • Introductory skills in agriculture, gardening, and land management
  • How nonprofits operate and serve their communities
  • Leadership, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills
  • Principles of environmental sustainability and stewardship

This internship is ideal for students who want meaningful work experience, enjoy being outdoors, and want to make a positive impact in their community.

Job Duties

No two days look the same! Job duties will include:

  • Welcome and interact with park visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Assist with planning, setting up, and facilitating park programs and community events
  • Capture photos, videos, and activity notes to support social media and marketing efforts
  • Help with garden, orchard, and pumpkin patch tasks such as planting, watering, and harvesting
  • Support trail maintenance and development projects
  • Research potential program ideas, partnerships, and grant opportunities
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project planning
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and fun work environment

  • Strong verbal communication and a friendly, welcoming personality
  • Ability to adapt to changing tasks and work environments
  • Comfortable walking and working on hilly or uneven terrain

General Information
  • Work Schedule Days and

    Hours:

    Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM (30‑minute lunch break included); may work occasional Saturdays and evenings (with that time taken off during the week)
  • Dress Code: Pants and a short sleeve or long sleeve shirt; closed‑toed shoes
  • Travel Required: Around the park and in the community; personal transportation required
  • Physical Requirements: Lifting, bending, crouching, and being outside in different weather conditions
  • Working Conditions: Outdoors, inside office; interacting with park visitors of all ages and partner organization staff

The full program is June 1st– July 17th

June 1st – June 3rd: Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

June 4th: Attend employer orientation meeting.

June 5th: POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport

June 8th–July 17th: Youth will report to…
