The Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for verifying the functionality, reliability, and performance of software applications through manual and regression testing. This role designs and executes test plans and test cases, documents and tracks defects through resolution, and partners closely with development teams throughout the software development lifecycle. The Quality Assurance Analyst also works to build and expand automated testing processes that improve test coverage, efficiency, and consistency.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Manual & Regression Testing
- Design, develop, and execute manual test cases and test scripts based on functional and technical requirements.
- Perform regression testing on new releases, patches, and enhancements to confirm existing functionality remains intact.
- Conduct exploratory and usability testing to uncover defects and issues not captured by scripted test cases.
- Validate software against business and functional requirements to ensure it meets acceptance criteria.
- Execute integration and end-to-end testing across interconnected systems and applications.
- Identify, document, and prioritize defects in a bug tracking system (e.g., Jira), including clear reproduction steps and severity classification.
- Track defects through resolution, verifying fixes and closing the loop with development teams.
- Prepare test summary reports, defect trends, and test coverage metrics for project stakeholders.
- Communicate testing progress, risks, and quality status clearly to developers, project managers, and leadership.
- Test Automation Development
- Build and maintain automated test scripts to support regression testing and increase testing efficiency and coverage.
- Identify manual test cases that are strong candidates for automation and prioritize based on risk and execution frequency.
- Collaborate with developers and QA team members to integrate automated tests into the build and deployment pipeline.
- Evaluate and recommend testing tools, frameworks, and methodologies to continuously improve the automation process.
- Test Planning & Documentation
- Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and test scripts aligned with project requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Maintain organized, up-to-date documentation of test coverage, known issues, and testing procedures.
- Provide testing estimates and flag testing risks during sprint planning and backlog grooming.
- Participate in requirements and design reviews to identify testability concerns before development begins.
- Quality Metrics & Continuous Improvement
- Track and report on key QA metrics, including defect density, test coverage, pass/fail rates, and automation coverage.
- Analyze recurring defects and testing bottlenecks to identify root causes and process improvement opportunities.
- Recommend improvements to testing processes, tools, and documentation to increase efficiency and quality.
- Stay current on QA best practices, testing tools, and industry trends to strengthen the testing function.
- Partner with Development, Product, and Project Management teams throughout the software development lifecycle to align on requirements, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives as an active member of the Agile/Scrum team.
- Serve as a quality resource for the team, providing input on testability, edge cases, and risk areas during design and planning discussions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field required, or equivalent practical experience in software testing.
- Minimum of two to four years of experience in software quality assurance, testing, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with manual testing, test case design, and regression testing required.
- Experience developing or maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks preferred.
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum software development environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, including functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing.
- Experience creating and executing test plans, test cases, and test scripts from functional and technical requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail, written communication, and organizational skills.
