Summary

The Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Operator is responsible for performing dimensional inspections of physical items using CMM equipment and other precision measuring instruments. This position ensures products and fixtures meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards. The CMM Operator works closely with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to support process improvement, defect prevention, and continuous quality assurance initiatives.

  • Evaluate and measure fixtures to verify suitably for production use
  • Measure parts to investigate dimensional issues
  • Create reports and communicate the nature of dimensional issues to relevant personnel
  • Prioritize scan requests, log completed scans, and update spreadsheets on status of scan requests
  • Move items within the inspection area and across the plant manually or by use of a crane or forklift
  • Perform monthly internal calibration of the CMM equipment
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the inspection area
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year experience with CMM, CAD, or CAM software
  • Understanding of geometric principles, metrology, and engineering drawings
  • Proficiency with hand tools for precision measurement of geometric dimensions
  • Must be able to perform trigonometric calculations and unit conversions with fractional imperial units and metric units
  • Experience in basic Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Inspection or laboratory employment experience
  • Associate's degree in studies related to mathematics, engineering, manufacturing technology, or mechatronics
  • Certification by ASQ- CCT, CQI, CQT
  • Experience with technical writing and reporting
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Understanding of AWS welding symbols
  • Communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Strong reading comprehension and technical writing skills
  • Organization and documentation skills
  • Attention to detail
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work outside and inside a manufacturing environment- work involves extended periods of standing, walking, and sustained handling of the scan tool; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; and intermittent periods of sitting, typing, and writing
  • Ability to wear PPE including but not limited to: safety glasses, steel toe footwear, hearing protection, AWS shaded welding glasses, chemical resistant suit
  • Ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally- travel may be required up to 10% of time (5 weeks per year)
