Working in the VUMC Epithelial Biology Center (EBC), you will serve in a pivotal Research Assistant role supporting designated research projects under direct supervision. The position is on site at 2215 Garland Ave., Nashville, TN, Monday‑Friday during traditional daytime business hours.
A Bachelor's degree in a Bioscience field (or equivalent experience) is required. While no experience is required, 1‑2 years of cell and tissue research experience is helpful.
Key Responsibilities- Run experiments, assays, and record results under supervision
- Read and follow experimental protocols (including animal handling and tissue culture)
- Compile and communicate results to the supervisor
- Follow university safety protocols (including the use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogens)
- Perform calculations involving molarity, percent solutions, and serial dilutions
- Prepare and operate equipment in experimental procedures (blood gas analyzer, centrifuge, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autoclave, scintillation counter, electrophoresis unit, analytical balance, etc.)
- Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and university guidelines
- Ensure laboratory is prepared for experiments
- Maintain inventories
- Maintain sterile conditions as required
- Prepare reagents
- Clean equipment
Education: Bachelor's degree (Bioscience or related field).
Experience: 1-2 years of cell or tissue research helpful; no experience required.
Skills: Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, basic laboratory safety, and equipment operation.
