One of our government clients is seeking an Unarmed Security Guard to perform institutional and related security work of average difficulty. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing a full range of security activities, including the protection of public buildings, monitoring facilities, responding to emergencies, controlling access to secured areas, and maintaining security documentation. This is the entry‑level working class in the security guard sub‑series and may require working any assigned shift.
Key Responsibilities- Perform various security activities, including patrolling facilities, monitoring alarms and security systems, checking safety Hazards, and identifying violations of laws and rules.
- Operate security equipment in the performance of duties, including two‑way radios, communication devices, patrol vehicles, and other transportation vehicles.
- Control the entrance and exit of individuals by verifying identity, purpose of visit, and authorization.
- Escort individuals as needed to ensure their safety.
- Respond to calls and take appropriate action to assist in emergency situations.
- Search for and apprehend missing or unauthorized individuals.
- Report security concerns to supervisors.
- Communicate with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
- Prepare and maintain various reports, including incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.
- Utilize motor vehicles, golf carts, security surveillance and monitoring equipment, two‑way radios, communication devices, restraint devices, computers, and other security equipment in the performance of duties.
- Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school is required.
- Qualifying full‑time law enforcement, security, or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Current CPR certification preferred. Certification may be provided if needed.
- Ability to perform institutional and public building security functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
- Ability to prepare and maintain security‑related documentation and reports.
- This is an onsite position.
- Employees may be assigned to work any shift based on operational needs.
- Position requires routine patrols, facility monitoring, access control, and emergency response activities.
- Work will be performed in an institutional environment requiring adherence to established security procedures and protocols.
