The Andrew Jackson Foundation is seeking a dependable and professional Armed Security & Guest Safety Officer to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at The Hermitage, one of Tennessee’s most recognized historic destinations.
This is more than a traditional security position. You’ll play an important role in protecting guests, employees, buildings, museum collections, and the historic property while also contributing to a positive visitor experience.

What You’ll DoSecurity & Property Protection
- Open, secure, and inspect buildings according to operational schedules
- Conduct regular patrols throughout the property, buildings, and outdoor grounds
- Monitor and respond to fire, burglar, panic, and other security alarm systems
- Observe for safety hazards, suspicious activity, theft, property damage, or other security concerns
- Control access to restricted areas, including museum and collections spaces
- Report security concerns and assist with maintaining a safe environment for guests and employees
- Follow established procedures during incidents, emergencies, and other unexpected situations
Incident Response & Reporting
- Respond appropriately to accidents, security incidents, and emergency situations
- Prepare accurate and detailed incident, activity, and security reports
- Document relevant observations and communicate concerns to leadership as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive situations
Guest Service & Event Support
- Provide professional and courteous assistance to visitors, staff, and guests
- Help maintain an an and welcoming atmosphere throughout the property
- Assist with traffic flow, parking, and crowd management during special events
- Provide transportation assistance for visitors and staff when needed
- Communicate clearly and professionally while enforcing security procedures
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain and maintain Tennessee Armed Security Certification
; training may be available for qualified candidates - Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with security or alarm systems
- Professional demeanor and sound judgment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Dependable, observant, and able to remain alert throughout the shift
The following are a plus but not required:
- First Aid certification
- CPR certification
- AED certification
- Firearm training and qualification
- Previous experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, military service, or a related field
- Experience working in a customer-facing or public environment
- Walk several miles during a shift
- Stand or sit for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Bend, climb, stoop, and perform active patrol duties
- Remain alert and responsive throughout extended shifts
- Work at one of Tennessee’s most iconic historic destinations
