Our company is seeking an Apprentice who is interested in specializing in whole-home backup power generators. The Residential Generator Apprentice plays a crucial role in supporting the installation of residential backup generators. This position involves assisting the Generator Electrician and Gas Technician in various tasks related to generator installation. The ideal candidate should possess basic technical skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to ensuring the reliable operation of backup generators in residential settings.

The ideal candidate should want to be a learner first, learn the trade but then be ready to become a Lead Installer and run their own crew in the future.

Apprentices typically begin their workday by arriving at the warehouse around 6:30 AM to prepare for the day. This includes reviewing job assignments, loading materials and equipment, confirming project details, and ensuring all necessary tools and safety gear are ready.

After morning preparation, crews travel in company vehicles to scheduled job sites to complete installations and service work. Workdays may vary depending on project scope and customer needs, but punctuality and preparedness are essential to maintaining our high standards of service and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the installation of residential backup generators according to manufacturer specifications and local building codes
  • Support Generator Electricians and Gas Technicians in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues
  • Help complete electrical, gas, and mechanical connections under supervision
  • Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and spare parts; assist with loading materials for daily job assignments
  • Accurately document maintenance services, installation details, and service reports in a timely manner using a tablet
  • Adhere strictly to company safety policies, job site procedures, and all applicable regulations
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with homeowners, providing basic generator operation and maintenance information when appropriate
  • Participate in ongoing technical and safety training to develop trade skills
  • Demonstrate a strong learner mindset and commitment to advancing into a Lead Installer role with the goal of running a crew independently
Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge or willingness to learn
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team
  • Working knowledge of computers and mobile devices
