Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
Position Summary
Perform maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet of commercial passenger vehicles, including motorcoaches, minibuses, school buses, trolleys, and double‑decker buses. Most vehicles are built on one‑ton chassis and powered by gas or small diesel engines. Ideal candidates will have experience working with Ford E‑Series, F‑Series, and Cummins engines, or similar commercial vehicle platforms.
$22‑40/hour based on experience; quarterly bonuses and tool allowance after 90‑day probationary period. Paid in‑house CDL training available with clean driving record.
Schedule- Part time, second shift
- Evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles using diagnostic equipment.
- Perform repairs on vehicles and routine maintenance.
- Check and repair electrical and cooling systems and install heaters and similar accessories.
- Analyze engine performance and perform tune‑ups as needed, carrying out preventive care.
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery in accordance with established safety guidelines; ensure shop equipment and tools are safe and report unsafe conditions.
- Maintain accurate and updated preventive maintenance records; ensure all required reports are completed on time.
- Keep shop, tools, supplies, and work areas clean and orderly at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of shop experience with diesel and fuel engines; ability to diagnose mechanical problems, perform repairs, and operate equipment involved in vehicle repair.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Must pass pre‑employment background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in a shop environment in all weather conditions.
- Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Work inside and outside around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
