Additionally, Tennessee does not have state taxes making the area more attractive to high-quality candidates. The Electrician has education and experience as a journeyman Electrician which indicates an extensive knowledge of work practices, methods and requirements of the National Electric Code. The incumbent must have a comprehensive trade knowledge of electrical theory (A.C. and D.C.), principles, elements, and systems operations.
The Electrician uses shop mathematics to calculate circuit values and amp loads, determine when limitations of systems and/or equipment are exceeded, and recognize excessive current flow or other signs of improper operation. The incumbent must have knowledge of other trades such as refrigeration, air conditioning, pipe fitting and a machinist.
As the Electrician, the incumbent's duties include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and lay out work to be performed on specific tasks, i.e. ordering of material to construct or replace complete motor control center for critical life safety equipment and systems.
- Prepare electrical diagrams in planning and laying out of work.
- Extensive Knowledge of A.C. and D.C. theory.
- Size, layout and integrate systems associated with the operation of the HVAC and the energy management system.
- Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on extremely complex systems. i.e. switch gear associated with multiple emergency generators which serve all critical, life safety and emergency equipment loads for the medical center.
- Repair of multiple pump and compressor systems such as domestic water boosters, primary chill water pumps, secondary chill water pumps, medical/surgical vacuum medical air compressors, dental evaluation systems, service air compressors, centrifugal chillers, and reciprocating chillers.
- Monitor systems through energy management system, which require additional complex circuits in order for them to be remotely monitored at the boiler room and other predetermined locations.
- Repairs electrical distribution systems and equipment to include electric beds, parking gate system, various communication systems, laundry equipment, pharmacy CMOP equipment, kitchen equipment, etc.

The duties of this position require physical exertion involving lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes. Physical effort is exerted in walking, running, climbing, crawling, and bending. Strain related to lack of movement such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time.
