Aircraft Engine Mechanic Job Description
The Aircraft APU Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and functionally testing Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) installed on ERJ 135/140/145 and CRJ 200 aircraft. Working in a Part 145 repair station environment, this role supports component-level repair activities and ensures all work complies with FAA regulations, approved technical data, and internal quality standards.
ResponsibilitiesPerform detailed APU inspections, disassembly, repair, assembly, and functional testing on ERJ and CRJ APUs.
Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and fuel system discrepancies on APUs and related components.
Interpret and apply Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPCs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and engineering data.
Carry out component-level repairs on starters, generators, fuel controls, gearboxes, and other APU accessories.
Conduct borescope inspections and dimensional checks to verify component condition and serviceability.
Complete detailed maintenance records and work orders in full compliance with FAA Part 145 requirements and company procedures.
Support APU test cell operations, including pre-test setup, monitoring test runs, and performing post-test evaluation and documentation.
Collaborate with other technicians and support staff to ensure efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, and on-time delivery of components.
Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
At least 2 years of aircraft engine or APU experience in a maintenance or engine shop environment.
Hands-on experience with aircraft engines, APUs, or related powerplant systems.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and fuel system issues.
Proficiency in reading and applying technical documents such as CMMs, AMMs, IPCs, SBs, ADs, and engineering data.
Skills & Qualifications
Powerplant license highly preferred.
Experience working on ERJ and CRJ aircraft, including heavy maintenance or C-check environments.
Experience in jet aircraft maintenance and APU systems.
- $30/hr-$38/hr
The position requires flexibility to work
first shift (5:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
second shift (2:00 PM – 12:30 AM)
schedules run either Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday.

This role is based in the Nashville, TN area at a complex of aircraft hangars located at Smyrna Airport, approximately 20 miles from downtown Nashville. The work environment is a dirty, non–climate-controlled hangar setting where temperatures can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer, and mechanics frequently walk outside between hangars. You will work around active aircraft, APUs, and test cell equipment in a hands-on, physically demanding maintenance environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
