Field Technician III

The Field Technician III supports field testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power equipment in low, medium, and high voltage environments. This is a predominantly field-based role that involves extensive hands-on work with equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switch gear, grounding systems, instrument transformers, motors, and related electrical apparatus. The position requires regular travel, overtime, a strong commitment to safety, and an interest in developing a long-term career in electrical testing and maintenance, including progression toward NETA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Travel locally and regionally to customer sites to perform electrical testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting work on power distribution equipment.
  • Assist with testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, cleaning, and maintaining electrical power equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, switch gear, motors, PTs, CCVTs, CTs, and related apparatus.
  • Work safely around low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems in a variety of field environments.
  • Use and learn electrical testing equipment such as megger testers, ductors, Hi-Pot equipment, power factor testing equipment, and CT ratio and saturation testing equipment.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support effective troubleshooting and repair of equipment issues.
  • Document test results, maintenance activities, repairs, and field findings accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and actively participate in job site safety meetings and programs.
  • Identify potential hazards on job sites and promptly communicate issues to the crew lead or experienced technician.
  • Interact professionally with customers while on site, representing the company with strong communication and service-oriented behavior.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge and skills with the goal of progressing toward NETA certification.
  • Support commissioning and maintenance activities for electrical systems and power distribution equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and project teams to complete field assignments efficiently and safely.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5+ years of experience in the electrical power, utility, industrial, electrical contractor, or related field environment.
  • Hands-on experience working with electrical systems, electrical equipment, or power distribution equipment.
  • Experience with electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance of low, medium, and high voltage systems.
  • Ability to work comfortably in the field approximately 95% of the time.
  • Practical experience with electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switch gear, motors, CTs, PTs, CCVTs, and other electrical apparatus.
  • Ability to use or learn test equipment including megger testers, ductors, Hi-Pot equipment, power factor testing tools, and CT ratio and saturation testing devices.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness and adherence to safety policies and procedures in electrical environments.
  • Capability to travel locally and regionally to customer sites and work overtime as needed.
  • NETA certification or experience that would be considered equivalent to NETA certification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in data center environments is a plus.
  • Interest in pursuing and maintaining NETA certification at progressively higher levels.
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanor when interacting with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while also collaborating effectively within a crew.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training, including safety training and NETA certification preparation sessions.

Work Environment
