Yard Worker
This role supports an equipment and tool rental operation by maintaining the yard and shop, preparing equipment for rental, and assisting mechanics and customers. You will work primarily outdoors and in the shop, operating and cleaning heavy equipment, performing general labor tasks, and helping ensure equipment is safe, clean, and ready for use.
Responsibilities- Clean and maintain the yard and lot to keep the site safe, organized, and presentable.
- Clean, inspect, and operate rental machines to ensure they are in good working condition before and after use.
- Refuel equipment and ensure all machines have adequate fuel and basic fluids prior to rental.
- Prepare equipment for rentals by staging, moving, and positioning machines as directed.
- Drive and maneuver heavy construction equipment such as tractors, bobcats, forklifts, and similar machinery safely around the yard and shop.
- Assist shop mechanics with tasks such as moving equipment, basic mechanical support, and general shop upkeep.
- Support customers by helping them locate, load, and unload equipment and by providing basic operational guidance as directed by the team.
- Perform general labor and odd jobs around the shop and yard as needed to support daily operations.
- Follow safety procedures and company guidelines while operating equipment and working in the yard and shop.
- Work collaboratively with a small team of yard and shop employees to ensure efficient daily operations.
- 2–3 years of experience operating construction or tractor equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy equipment such as tractors, bobcats, forklifts, or similar machinery.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand basic equipment functions and maintenance needs.
- Experience in a farm or ranch environment or similar setting involving heavy equipment and outdoor labor.
- Comfort working outdoors in a physically demanding role that includes yard work, heavy lifting, and general labor.
- Ability to work with customers and mechanics in a professional and helpful manner.
- Reliability and willingness to follow safety protocols and operational procedures.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience as a laborer, helper, farm hand, or yard worker.
- Experience in construction, concrete work, or related trades.
- Forklift experience or comfort learning to operate forklifts under supervision.
- Strong desire to grow into more advanced mechanical responsibilities over time.
- Willingness to learn equipment maintenance and repair tasks as training is provided.

WorkEnvironment
You will work at an equipment and tool rental facility that includes both an indoor shop and an outdoor yard on a dealership-style site. The team typically consists of 5–6 employees in the shop, with most day-to-day tasks performed outside. The role involves working in all types of weather, including rain, snow, heat, and cold, so comfort with inclement conditions is essential.
The standard schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a focus on hands-on, physical work around heavy equipment and machinery.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
