One of our government clients is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker, a journey-level position responsible for a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks across our 87-acre school campus. This role ensures a safe, functional, and productive learning environment by maintaining district facilities, grounds, and equipment in top condition. You will work independently or as part of a team to handle routine repairs and preventive maintenance.

- The Building Maintenance Worker II is a journey-level position responsible for a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks across our 87-acre school campus. This role ensures a safe, functional, and productive learning environment by maintaining district facilities, grounds, and equipment in top condition. You will work independently or as a team to handle routine repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Perform repairs on interior and exterior building components, including windows, doors, flooring, and woodwork.
- Execute routine tasks in plumbing (unstopping drains, replacing fixtures), electrical (replacing ballasts, switches, and receptacles), and HVAC (changing filters, belts, and motors).
- Maintain 87 acres of school grounds, which may include fence repair, sidewalk installation, snow removal, and operating heavy equipment like tractors or mowers.
- Conduct regularly scheduled inspections of facility equipment and safety systems to prevent major breakdowns.
- Efficiently process and complete work orders using computer-based inventory and maintenance systems.
- Remain available for on-call duties or overtime during emergencies to ensure uninterrupted school operations.
- Prioritize daily tasks and activities to meet operational requirements.
- Operate and utilize a variety of tools and equipment such as assorted hand and power tools, plungers, sewer rodders, drills, skill saws, and grinders.
- Identify maintenance issues in order to repair/resolve issues or report issues to someone who can repair/resolve them.
- Inspect devices such as electrical systems, basic plumbing, mechanical systems (i.e., HVAC, laundry, and food service equipment), remove and replace defective parts to determine necessary repairs.
- Perform routine repairs on standard work equipment.
- Rewire electrical outlets and breaker boxes.
- Perform routine electrical tasks such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, low voltage transformers, power poles, receptacles, and wall switches.
- Repair windows, doors, flooring, woodwork, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
- Perform basic carpentry tasks such as repairing doors, gates, broken windows, installing bulletin boards, hanging drywall, building walls, minor roofing repair, building shelving, and caulking.
- Police grounds.
- Perform minor HVAC repair such as changing belts, filters, or motors.
- Perform minor construction projects.
- Perform plumbing tasks such as unstopping commodes, replacing fixtures, drains, and repairing leaks.
- Perform landscaping tasks such as planting flowers, mowing, sharpening mower blades, and changing mower oil and oil filters.
- Perform basic welding.
- Review preventative maintenance plans in order to perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of the building does not deteriorate.
- Perform daily walk-through inspections of facilities to ensure proper working conditions.
- Assist in performing inventory of work-related supplies and materials.
- Provide direction and oversight to others as needed.
- Report to supervisor the inventory of cleaning supplies, repair tools, or replacement parts.
- Read work orders, receive instructions from supervisors or previous shift workers to determine work requirements.
- Communicate with outside vendors and customers to provide basic customer service and direct people to appropriate solutions and answers.
- May operate a state-issued pick-up truck, golf cart, watercraft, or another vehicle.
- Perform repair work using diagrams, drawings, or maintenance manuals.
- Assist supervisor in determining supplies or materials needed to perform work activities.
- Provide expert advice to members and agency SLB coordinators regarding the payment and application process.
- Provide input regarding sub-processes in determining and maintaining files for process improvements.
- Assist in unloading supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Move objects such as large furniture, file cabinets, cubicles, chairs, desks, and bookshelves.
- Restock maintenance supplies.
- Set up cubicle spaces, conference rooms, and areas for special events.
- Record routine reports of time expended and materials used.
- Use human resource software to enter time worked and leave requests.
