Position Overview /DutiesINTRODUCTION:
Serves as Master of a derrick boat or floating crane engaged in major maintenance and repair of locks and dams, channel maintenance activities, marine construction, and general hoisting services. Directs and is responsible for the proper maintenance, operation, administration, and safety of the vessels under the incumbent's area of responsibility.

Full Time-Permanent - DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENTS/DUTIES
- Directs and coordinates the activities of the assigned crew in conducting major maintenance of navigation structures.
- Removing and installing navigation lock and dam components, sweeping and probing waterways for rocks and obstructions.
- Assists in the selection of crane operator personnel, riggers, and signal persons.
- Directs or performs the operation of hoisting and swinging engines on derrick boats and floating cranes with capacities up to 250 tons engaged in marine construction and repair services and maintenance of navigation channels.
- Moves levers controlling the raising and lowering of the boom and the horizontal movement of the boom, or the horizontal movement of the cab and boom, the height of the hoisting line, and the opening and closing of the bucket attachments.
- Operates clamshell buckets, orange peels, and grapples used in digging, lifting, and depositing dredged materials (such as rocks, sand, clay and snags).
- Operates mobile cranes with capacities up to 100 tons and boom lengths of up to 200 feet.
- Oversees and assists with all repairs to house, hull, machinery and equipment, including major repair work on cables, sheaves, buckets, spuds, and other vessel or crane equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:- Work Directions and Supervision
Ability to perform common Master Derrick boat tasks including operating operated land-based cranes or floating cranes in the maintenance of structures and have performed general lifting and duty cycle work. I have worked under the general direction of a crane or derrick boat master. I have been responsible for the inspection of cranes that I have operated. I have assisted with the preparation of critical lift plans, activity hazard analysis and completion of requisitions and periodic reports.

Moderate physical effort is normally required in steering the vessel, walking, and climbing. Somewhat greater effort is required in accomplishing housekeeping and general maintenance work. Close hand and eye coordination is required when operating controls to maneuver vessels in traffic, in confined areas, and during derrick operations.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed both inside and outside aboard floating plants in all types of weather. There is danger of drowning due to accident or storm (and particularly due to improper lifting or handling of heavy objects which may cause the derrick to overturn). There is further danger of injury due to blasting operations. Is subject to cuts, bruises, sprains, and broken bones.
The possibility of falling or slipping on wet or icy decks and ladders is always present. Exposed to unpleasant noise, heat, and fumes produced by the engine and to dirt and grease when making minor repairs to vessel and machinery.

- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Position is designated as Non-Sensitive-No access security clearance.
- Position may require travel up to (75%) of duty time.
- Incumbent must currently possess and be able to maintain the appropriate crane operators license for the type and capacity of cranes operated in this position.
