About the Company

Our client is a specialty insurance organization supporting multiple MGA platforms with a focus on commercial property programs. The environment is highly technical, fast‑paced, and collaborative, with strong investment in data, analytics, engineering, and actuarial capabilities. The firm is committed to strengthening pricing sophistication, reserving rigor, and portfolio performance across a diverse set of products.

About the Role

The Senior Actuarial Manager will lead pricing and reserving efforts across two MGA portfolios, including an MGA with eight to ten commercial property programs. This role blends leadership with hands‑on technical execution and is ideal for an actuary who enjoys building pricing tools, optimizing analytical processes, mentoring analysts, and directly contributing through SQL and Python. This position works closely with underwriting, data engineering, data science, and product teams to drive pricing strategy, reserving accuracy, and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead pricing support across multiple commercial property products, each with unique rating structures
  • Review and enhance raters, improving logic, structure, and documentation
  • Partner with pricing actuaries on GLM rebuilds, rating factor updates, segmentation, trend studies, and modernization efforts
  • Conduct pricing diagnostics, loss cost evaluations, and performance analysis
  • Collaborate with underwriting leadership to address pricing questions and recommend product or rate adjustments
  • Oversee accurate implementation of rating logic across systems
  • Support quarterly reserving processes across both MGAs
  • Partner with the reserving manager to assess reserve adequacy, development patterns, and methodological documentation
  • Contribute hands‑on coding in SQL, Python, or R (approximately 30 percent of the role)
  • Guide development of automated workflows for pricing, reserving, and analytical reporting
  • Identify and re‑engineer inefficient processes with a coding‑first mindset
  • Maintain consistent technical standards across raters, pipelines, and analysis scripts
  • Lead and mentor a four‑person actuarial team, including pricing and reserving analysts
  • Partner with data engineering and data science to validate and improve data accessibility and structure
  • Collaborate with underwriting, product, finance, and senior leadership to support decision‑making
  • Balance long‑term modeling work with fast‑turnaround business needs
  • Provide insights on product performance, rate adequacy, and portfolio trends
  • Build frameworks that improve scalability, consistency, and team efficiency
  • Support strategic initiatives including data quality improvements, predictive modeling readiness, and rater modernization
Qualifications
  • ACAS required; FCAS preferred but not mandatory
  • 5 to 10+ years of actuarial experience with clear progression in pricing or reserving
  • Strong SQL skills required
  • Strong Python or R skills (Python preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to write, review, and improve production‑quality code
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior actuarial staff
  • Commercial lines, property, or MGA experience preferred; strong technical P&C backgrounds also welcome
  • Proven analytical problem‑solving skills and ability to refine processes
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to travel approximately three times per year for in‑person collaboration
Why we love this opportunity
  • High‑impact role influencing pricing and reserving across multiple MGA portfolios
  • Unique mix of leadership responsibility and hands‑on technical work
  • Organization that values clean code, technical depth, analytical rigor, and process improvement
  • Deep cross‑functional involvement with underwriting, engineering, data science, and senior leadership
  • Builder‑oriented culture that rewards ownership, speed, and thoughtful technical execution
