Role Description

This is a hands‑on transportation position. The majority of your time will be spent operating company vehicles and completing customer deliveries. When not on the road, you will oversee fleet administration, coordinate vehicle maintenance, assist with dispatch operations, and support the Transportation Manager with daily operations.

As our transportation division continues to grow, this position will evolve to include training, onboarding, and mentoring new drivers while helping maintain the high standards our customers expect.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates professionally, solves problems independently, and is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure our transportation operation runs smoothly.

Primary Responsibilities Professional Driving
  • Safely operate company Sprinter vans, 26‑foot box trucks with lift gates, flatbed trucks, and future fleet vehicles.
  • Complete local, regional, same‑day, scheduled, expedited, and final‑mile deliveries.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload freight safely and efficiently.
  • Perform thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections.
  • Complete electronic proof of delivery and required delivery documentation.
  • Maintain clear communication with dispatch and customers throughout the delivery process.
  • Represent Velocity professionally at all customer locations.
  • Respond to last‑minute delivery requests and changing customer priorities.
  • Ensure company vehicles remain clean, organized, and professionally presented.
Fleet Coordination
  • Maintain oversight of the company fleet, including maintenance schedules, inspections, registrations, permits, and service records.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs with service providers.
  • Transport company vehicles to and from maintenance facilities as needed.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and proactively identify maintenance needs.
  • Track fuel usage, repair expenses, maintenance costs, and fleet performance.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical fleet records.
  • Assist with evaluating repair recommendations and maintenance expenses.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks when appropriate and safe.
Dispatch & Transportation Operations
  • Serve as backup dispatcher when needed.
  • Assist with order entry, route planning, delivery tracking, customer communication, and driver support.
  • Learn and utilize the company’s Transportation Management System (TMS), GPS tracking platform, and routing software.
  • Assist with transportation reporting and operational projects.
  • Help maintain excellent on‑time service and customer satisfaction.
Driver Training & Leadership
  • Onboarding and training new drivers.
  • Conducting ride‑alongs and field coaching.
  • Reinforcing safe driving practices and DOT compliance.
  • Teaching company procedures and customer service expectations.
  • Supporting continuous improvement throughout the transportation department.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional commercial driving and delivery experience.
  • Experience operating Sprinter vans, 26‑foot box trucks, or similar commercial vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Medical Card).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company insurance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.
