Transportation Permit Specialist
Location:
Nashville, TN (On-site) Duration: 18 May 2026 – 30 September 2026
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (7.5 hours/day) Time Zone: CST
Job Overview:
The Transportation Permit Specialist will work as part of a small, diverse team responsible for managing permits for oversized and overweight commercial vehicles. The role ensures safe and compliant movement of freight across the state.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review oversized and overweight permit applications for accuracy and completeness
- Analyze routes and restrictions to ensure safe transportation across the state
- Ensure permits comply with state laws and regulations
- Provide customer support to commercial carriers regarding permit status and updates
- Assist in coordinating safe movement of over-dimensional freight
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
- OR
- Associate degree + 2 years of relevant experience
- OR
- High school diploma + 4 years of relevant experience
Required
Skills & Experience:
- Strong customer service experience
- Analytical skills for compliance review and decision-making
- Experience in motor carrier permit registration
- Background in transportation or logistics operations (freight movement, heavy haul, permit purchasing)
- Experience with permit management and routing software
- Familiarity with GIS tools
- Data and systems handling experience
