- Be accessible to all centers as needed upon request by Center Director, Assistant Center Director, or other supervisory staff.
- Serve as acting teacher assistant in the absence of teacher assistance or when required or needed.
- Attend all required orientation, pre-service, in-service trainings, and staff meetings.
- Assist teaching staff in planning and implementing daily classroom activities and educational programs.
- Help each child develop a positive self-image, relationship, and trust.
- Participate in ongoing observation and assessment of children to support individualized learning plans to meet their needs.
- Support smooth classroom transitions (arrival, meals, rest time, and departure) to ensure consistency and structure for children.
- Active supervision of children at all times, ensuring safety protocols.
- Help to maintain appropriate staff‑to-child ratios at all times.
- Provide individualized support to children during small group and one‑on‑one activities.
- Reinforce classroom rules, routines, and positive behavior expectations using appropriate guidance techniques.
- Learn and comply with the Head Start Performance Standards, Mississippi licensing requirements and the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- Learn and comply with State and Federal observation instruments (ITERS,ECERS).
- Work closely with agency’s staff, parents, volunteers and community to foster coordinated and integrated program services.
- Monitor children’s health and well‑being, reporting any concerns or incidents to teaching staff or supervisors immediately.
- Maintain accurate children’s records including attendance documentation.
- Participate in Parent Committee meetings and program activities.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential with Infant/Toddler and Preschool endorsements within two (2) years of hire
- Current or former Head Start parent or childcare provider who is familiar with Head Start preferred
