REPORTS TO:

PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

SALARY RANGE: $16.00 hour

To maintain and repair city owned equipment, allowing all departments to perform their job duties, providing a good quality of life for the citizens.

Mechanic I- will assist journeyman automotive mechanics in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel powered automotive and related equipment. Employees work along with skilled automotive mechanics installing and repairing motors and performing routine maintenance tasks on City- owned automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, fire trucks, bulldozers, mowers, tractors, and other standard and specialized equipment.

• Assists in repair, removal, and installation of engine components, mechanical elements, and general overhaul of automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mowers, bulldozers, and other automobile equipment by performing the semi-skilled and less skilled tasks.
• Installs and adjusts brakes; adjusts and changes spark plugs, carburetors, and ignition points.
• Makes emergency road calls for minor repairs, to deliver gas or supplies, or to tow disabled equipment to the garage.
• Keeps tools in proper place.
• Performs related work as required.

• Engage in other related physical labor activities as needed.

High School graduate or GED equivalent with experience in automotive mechanic work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Some knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and methods of the Automotive Mechanic Trade.
• Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Some knowledge of the operating principals of gasoline and diesel powered engines and the mechanical parts of the automotive equipment.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled mechanical duties.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to develop skill in the use and care of tools and machinery employed in the use and care of tools and machinery employed in the Automotive Mechanic Trade.
• Willingness to perform routine manual work.
• Ability and Stamina to lift heavy articles.

• Frequently required to stand talk or hear. Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.
• Frequently lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally and/or move up to 100 pounds. DEPARTMENT EQUITY STATEMENT
