About This Job

Northwestern State University Department of Social Work invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Social Work in the MSW program with a start date of August 10, 2026. Minimum Qualifications

• Must hold a master's degree accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) or a Ph.D. in Social Work.
• Must have the equivalent of two years or more full-time post-master's degree professional experience. A minimum of two years full-time post-CSWE-accredited master's degree experience in social work practice is required to teach "practice" courses. Previous teaching experience preferred.
• Must hold a Social Work License or Credential with Louisiana preferred.
• Must be proficient in computer word processing and other technologies.
• Must be effective in teaching the assigned subject material.
• Must possess skills to become proficient in curriculum development, instruction, online instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling.
• Must meet the required standards defined by the University.

Job Duties and Other Information

• Be committed to excellence in teaching, service, professional growth, and scholarship.
• Teaching load is 15 hours per semester with 100% designation in the MSW program. Some teaching assignments may be for the BSW program as requested by the Department Head.
• Work with the MSW Program Director on the MSW accreditation with the Council on Social Work Education.
• Submit all required documentation, e.g. course syllabi, to the department administrative assistant each semester.
• Provide course instruction in accordance with the course syllabus and department guidelines.
• Utilize a variety of proven teaching methods appropriate to the targeted domain of learning.
• Maintain assigned class schedules.
• Evaluate students and report progress in a timely manner.
• Participate in periodic review of course materials and in course development/revision.
• Serve as an academic advisor and mentor for social work students.
• Maintain required office hours of eight face-to-face and two online hours per week, and, during business hours, be attentive to departmental communications and flow of departmental work.
