Northwestern State University seeks qualified applicants for the position of GIS Research Associate. This role is part of the Preservation Technical Services Division and partners with the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT), a research and training office of the National Park Service. The position is based in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Location & CompensationContracted through the State of Louisiana for two years. Annual salary is $50,470 with benefits.
Responsibilities- Provide field support and coordinate with the project lead on creating Ground Control Points.
- Verify data accuracy and conduct on‑site data collection.
- Create, manage, and modify digital story maps using ArcGIS and related software.
- Maintain GIS data management, including developing, editing, and updating geospatial databases following archiving standards.
- Research and compile information to develop standardized data collection and records within GIS systems.
- Create reports with project deliverables and coordinate results with supervisor within specific time frames.
- Perform troubleshooting of data and computer operating errors.
- Compile research and written information for social media and outreach presentations.
- Ensure safety is a top priority at all times.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree.
- Experience with GIS related to UAS systems.
- Experience with GIS and data capture by UAS.
- Moderate knowledge of photographic techniques.
- Knowledge of GIS technology software and hardware, including proficiency with ArcGIS, GPS, GNSS, and RTK hardware systems.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Basic knowledge of architectural history and historic preservation.
- Self‑driven, highly motivated, diplomatic, and project‑focused with excellent attention to detail and strong teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote sites across the country, sometimes for weeks at a time.
- Must be able to work in the United States for the two‑year contract without visa sponsorship or renewal.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Background check is required as a condition of employment.
- Bonus:
Experience with Remote Pilot’s License, LiDAR capture and scanning, photogrammetry capture, and basic understanding of CAD/BIM/3D modeling software.
