Maintenance Mechanic

In this hands‑on position, Maintenance Mechanic involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining machinery and mechanical systems through preventive checks, troubleshooting faults, and performing repairs or replacements to ensure operational efficiency and minimize downtime, requiring skills in using hand/power tools, understanding mechanics/hydraulics, and adhering to strict safety protocols.
Key duties include routine servicing, diagnosing issues, fabricating parts, maintaining records, and collaborating with teams, often requiring physical stamina in manufacturing or industrial environments. You will operate and fix equipment, maintain a clean work area, and follow all safety and biosecurity guidelines. This is a fast‑paced environment where attention to detail and teamwork are key. - Conduct routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on motors, pumps, valves, and other equipment.
- Repair broken components, install new machinery, and perform emergency fixes.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using observation, testing, and schematics.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
- Adhere to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, and become familiar with all plant and maintenance mechanic safety policies within the first 6 months.
- Maintain a good work history and attendance record and demonstrate safe work practices.
- Work any shift, weekends, holidays, and be on call for plant emergencies as they arise.
- Work at heights of 40 to 60 feet.
- Pass the M‑4 maintenance test with a score of 80% or higher.
- Possess basic mechanical abilities and learn the day‑to‑day functions of a maintenance mechanic within a 45‑day trial period.
- Learn safety and machine operation procedures while working with maintenance mechanic operators.
- Complete the required paperwork related to the ammonia refrigeration system’s mechanical integrity.
- Communicate with Refrigeration management regarding daily issues.
- Perform all other duties as directed by Maintenance Management.
- Obey all USDA, HACCP, plant, and safety rules & regulations and assist with process safety management.
- Maintain or purchase all tools required for the position.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technical:
Proficiency with hand/power tools, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, blueprints, and CMMS. - Soft Skills:
Strong problem‑solving, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork. - Physical:
Ability to stand long hours, lift heavy loads, and work in various positions.
- Participation on the Hazmat team, requiring Hazwoper training, Confined Space training, pulmonary function and respirator fit test, and Hazmat physical.
- Use a standard volt/ohm meter.
- Read and use an amp probe.
- Read and understand electrical schematics.
- Troubleshoot 110 V, 220 V, and 480‑V 3‑phase electrical circuits.
- Demonstrate basic welding skills.
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous training experience preferred; positive and motivated attitude; strong communication skills, professional demeanor, ability to work in hot/cold environments, stand for long periods, excellent organizational and time‑management skills, flexible schedule (including weekends), independent, confident, reliable with great attendance.
Benefits & Compensation- Schedule:
Mon‑Fri 7‑3 pm, Saturday 7‑3 pm with occasional weekends and holidays. - Benefits:
