The Natick Public Schools Seek a Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher (LTS) for the period 8/24/2026 through 10/21/2026.

Job Goal: Profile of a Natick Educator. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for day-to-day management of the classroom and provision of instruction, including development and implementation of the IEP goals, assessment, and curriculum design. The teacher collaborates with general education and special education teachers, supervises classroom staff, and maintains ongoing parent contact.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred

Professional Certification:

  • MA DESE licensure in Special Education
  • MA DESE SEI Endorsement
  • Additional certification in general education and/or ESL highly desirable

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Ability to identify formal and informal assessments to measure student skill level and progress
  • Ability to analyze data to make recommendations
  • Understanding of child/adolescent development
  • Knowledge of best instructional practices for students with special needs
  • Understanding of IEP development and implementation
  • Understanding of district, state, and federal policies related to students with disabilities
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in education

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a diverse public school setting
  • Experience with students with disabilities
  • Experience supporting academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs
  • Experience with English language learners (preferred)
  • Experience with Google Suite and Power School (preferred, training available)

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Multilingual abilities are desirable
  • Ability to work collaboratively, multitask, and meet deadlines

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Phone, computer, software applications, scanner, copier, etc.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with IEP goals and MA standards
  • Develop data collection systems to monitor progress toward goals
  • Implement behavior and incentive plans and maintain data
  • Guide classroom support staff and coordinate with other staff
  • Provide direct instruction through inclusion and/or resource models
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary programming and conduct evaluations and progress monitoring
  • Prepare MCAS alternate assessments as assigned
  • Implement social skills training and use assistive technology to support access to curriculum
  • Support student transitions using positive behavior supports and developmentally appropriate interventions
  • Organize daily schedule to meet caseload
  • Consult with staff to improve programming; maintain ongoing parent communication
  • Develop IEPs under district expectations and applicable laws
  • Participate in professional development and support district initiatives
  • Promote equitable access and address bias to ensure opportunity for all students
  • Update policies and procedures as needed in collaboration with administration
  • Other duties as assigned
