QUALIFICATIONS- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's degree preferred
- Professional Certification:
- Massachusetts DESE certification in Visual Art (preK-8)
- SEI Endorsement
- Specialized Knowledge:
- Strong foundation in student-centered pedagogy in visual arts
- Knowledge of developmental needs of children
- Strong content-area knowledge and expertise
- Knowledge of elementary school philosophy
- Thorough understanding of theories and teaching methodologies along with a sophisticated understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of elementary students
- Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Standards-Based curriculum
- Working knowledge of the principles of UDL
- Working knowledge of SEL supports
- Commitment to principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
- Preferred Experience:
- Experience teaching in a diverse public elementary school
- Experience working with students with disabilities/special abilities
- Experience working with students who are English language learners
- Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) – Power School preferred
- Skills:
- Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
- Bilingual skills in Spanish and Portuguese (highly desirable)
- Passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
- Flexibility and collaboration
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced supportive environment
- Organized and able to meet time-sensitive deadlines
- Open to alternatives compatible with state certification requirements
- Phone, intercom, personal computer and software applications, scanner, copy machine, calculator, camera, printers, and fax machine.
- Provide learning experiences in art and other core subjects guided by Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards; create a conducive learning environment.
- Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction, materials, and assessments.
- Evaluate, try innovative approaches, and refine instructional strategies, including effective use of technology.
- Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to diversity and strive for equitable opportunities.
- Maintain and improve professional competence through professional development and self-generated activities.
- Share responsibility for grade/team/PLC/department, building, and district goals; attend faculty and committee meetings as required.
