Job Overview

A Dean of Students at Natick High School fosters a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. This student‑centered leader commits to equity, promotes a positive school culture, supports attendance and engagement, and collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to enhance academic and social‑emotional success. The role is integral to the school’s MTSS structure, implementing tiered responses to student behavior, restorative practices, and discipline.

Education
  • Master’s degree, preferably in educational leadership.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Vice‑Principal/Principal, 9‑12 required.
  • At least five years of successful experience in a secondary education position (teacher, counselor, or related).
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese highly desired.
Essential Duties Student Culture, Climate, and Engagement
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and equitable school culture that supports student achievement, well‑being, belonging, and engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families to foster trust, accountability, and connection.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the school during the day, extracurricular, co‑curricular, and athletics activities, and school events.
  • Develop, implement, and support programs that encourage student leadership, civic engagement, school pride, and connectedness.
Student Conduct, Behavioral Consequences and Restorative Practices
  • Respond to student behavior fairly, consistently, and equitably, ensuring educational opportunities for growth.
  • Address behavioral referrals in a timely, thorough manner.
  • Conduct investigations in accordance with district policies and applicable regulations.
  • Investigate allegations of bullying and harassment, deescalate conflict, and assign progressive disciplinary consequences.
  • Engage students in restorative practices, including conferences, mediations, restorative circles, and problem‑solving meetings.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to ensure follow‑through and accountability.
  • Conduct suspension hearings, participate in manifestation determination meetings, coordinate re‑entry meetings, and develop safety/support plans.
  • Maintain accurate disciplinary records and coordinate student privileges.
Attendance, Academic Monitoring, and Student Support
  • Implement key components of the building‑wide MTSS structure.
  • Monitor attendance, identify trends, and coordinate interventions.
  • Collaborate with students, families, counselors, social workers, psychologists, teachers, and outside providers for support.
  • Track academic performance and intervene proactively.
  • Serve as an active member of multidisciplinary student support teams (e.g., Child Study Team).
  • Run the Case Management Team for the assigned cohort.
  • Develop individualized support plans, including graduation contracts and support plans.
  • Support mental health interventions in coordination with staff and providers.
  • Manage MIAA athletic eligibility in coordination with Athletics Department.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding attendance, behavior, and support concerns.
  • Maintain culturally affirming practices to build trust.
  • Facilitate meetings (504, IEP, ICAP) and partner with community organizations.
  • Serve as liaison between the school, students, and families to strengthen engagement.
  • Assist families in accessing supports and resources.
  • Coordinate with the School Resource Officer and local agencies on safety concerns.
