Job GoalEducate all students to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, academic and linguistic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s preferred. - Professional Certification: MA DESE 5-8 certification in applicable field; MA DESE SEI endorsement.
- Specialized Knowledge: Strong foundation in student‑centered pedagogy; knowledge of middle school philosophy and adolescent development; understanding of Massachusetts Standards‑Based curriculum; understanding of UDL and SEL instruction; proficiency in assessment and data analysis; commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Preferred Experience: Teaching in a diverse public school; working with students with disabilities or special abilities; working with English language learners; familiarity with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom) and Power School.
- Skills: Demonstrated aptitude for teaching; bilingual skills in Spanish or Portuguese desirable; passion for working with students, families, and colleagues; flexible, collaborative, strong verbal and written communication; ability to multitask, organize, and meet deadlines.
- Prepare and deliver curriculum‑aligned instruction for grade 5 math and science.
- Maintain high expectations, use varied teaching methods, and integrate technology to maximize learning.
- Assess student progress, provide feedback to students and parents, and adjust instruction.
- Provide academic support and challenge, and deliver district learning expectations.
- Collaborate with specialists, teachers, and leaders to meet student needs.
- Maintain a safe, orderly classroom environment that fosters community.
- Practice culturally responsive communication with students, families, and colleagues.
Physical Requirements
Work in classroom and school settings, including movement on campus, operating school equipment, and communicating in person and via video or phone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, multitask, and perform duties in a moderate to loud environment.
