The Interim Part-Time Director of School Nursing provides district-wide leadership, coordination, and oversight of school health services, ensuring equitable, safe, and legally compliant healthcare for all students.

Responsibilities include establishing a centralized model of nursing practice aligned with Massachusetts regulations and best practices in school-based health, supporting student access to education by addressing health needs, promoting wellness, and ensuring consistent implementation of policies and clinical practices across schools.

This 0.6 FTE position focuses on district-wide leadership, supervision, compliance, and program oversight responsibilities and does not involve routine direct nursing services within a school building.

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership and supervision to all district school nurses, ensuring high-quality, consistent health services across schools.
  • Coordinate and manage the comprehensive school health program, including clinical care, prevention, and health education alignment.
  • Develop and implement a district-wide vision for school health services grounded in equity, access, and student-centered care.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Services, school administrators, and the district physician.
  • Participate as a member of district leadership teams and interdisciplinary committees.
  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of school health policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal health, safety, and privacy laws.
  • Oversee the School-Based Medication Administration Program and related protocols.
  • Coordinate daily clinical operations and collaborate with the district physician on standing orders, physical examinations, and medical consultations.
  • Oversee mandated screening programs and maintain accurate health records via the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Lead district response to communicable diseases and infection control in collaboration with Mass Public Health.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and support all school nursing staff, including hiring, onboarding, and training.
  • Coordinate CPR/AED and required certification trainings and district-wide professional development for nurses.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, educators, community health providers, and local health boards to strengthen partnerships.
  • Develop and manage the school health services budget and ensure appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate student health records, analyze data, and prepare reports for district leadership and state agencies.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with district priorities and student outcomes.
  • Model professionalism, ethical practice, and culturally responsive care.
Education & Experience
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education School Nurse Licensure.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of school nursing experience preferred.
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or program coordination experience preferred.
