JOB GOAL:
Profile of a Natick Educator
Building Substitutes report to their assigned school and cover teacher and para absences and other supervisory duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
BA/BS degree to be a Teacher Sub preferred;
Para subs do not require a degree
Professional Certification: not required
Specialized Knowledge Prefferred:
- Child development
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with children in a structured environment
- Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and Power School preferred, but will train the right candidate
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the position and adapt to a variety of classroom assignments and school settings.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and collaborative communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and the school community.
- Commitment to supporting student learning, safety, and well-being through effective classroom supervision and engagement.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in accordance with applicable laws and district policies.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, and professionalism in responding to changing school and student needs.
- Ability to effectively manage classroom routines and student behavior using positive, developmentally appropriate practices.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly in Spanish or Portuguese, are highly desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness preferred.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
- Phone, personal computer and software applications as outlined above, scanner, copy machine, calculator, camera, printers and fax machine.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)
- Implement instructional plans, classroom activities, and assignments as directed by the absent teacher. When lesson plans are unavailable or clarification is needed, consult with the building principal or designated administrator for guidance.
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and orderly learning environment that promotes student engagement and supports district and school expectations for behavior.
- Follow all school, district, and classroom procedures, policies, and protocols, including emergency procedures and student supervision requirements.
- Supervise students at all times, including during classroom instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Maintain appropriate classroom management using positive behavior support strategies and consistent implementation of established school expectations.
- Accurately take attendance and maintain required records related to student attendance, health, safety, accidents, incidents, or disciplinary concerns in accordance with district procedures.
