Position Type: Part-Time
Reporting To: Building Principal
Work Days/FTE: Monday‑Friday 10:45 am – 1:45 pm
Salary/Benefits: Salary and benefits per the Non‑Rep Compensation schedule (not eligible for additional benefits)
Job Goal: The Cafeteria Monitor is responsible for the safety of students during lunch/recess periods and for the orderly functioning of the cafeteria during lunch periods.
Qualifications- Education: Associates Degree preferred but not required
- Specialized Knowledge: Understanding of child development and good practices for guiding and supervising students in informal settings
- Preferred Experience: Experience working with children is required
- Successful candidate must be organized and patient
- Skills:
- Demonstrated aptitude for assigned work
- Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Candidates should have a passion for working with students and colleagues, be flexible and collaborative, and be able to multitask in a fast‑paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth
- Alternative qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent in conformity with state certification requirements
- Phone, personal computer
- Supervision of lunch periods at the elementary school level
- Assistance in the delivery of lunches
- Assurance of student safety during lunch periods both inside and outside the school building
- Assistance in the cleanup of lunch areas at the end of lunch periods
- Other duties as assigned by the building department
Physical Requirements
- Move about the classroom, school, school grounds, office, and/or off‑site locations
- On some occasions, move quickly across even or uneven surfaces
- Remain in a stationary position for periods of time
- Operate a computer and other school/office productivity machinery (iPad, copy machine, printer, etc.)
- Read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids
- Maintain files and access school/classroom/office materials
- Communicate with others so that information received and given is understood and accurately communicated
- Collaborate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person, via video conference, telephone, and/or in writing
- Observe details at close range
- Ensure the safety of students in the school setting
- Multitask and meet multiple demands from several people
- May need to teach and support students with life‑skills development such as eating, cleaning, and toileting
- Lifting up to and including 25 lbs
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud
