Sound & Spirit Intergenerational Choir’s Kid & Teen Group

The Lead Teacher for the Kids Group & Teens Group plays a central role in shaping the musical experience of Sound & Spirit’s youngest singers. This person guides the kids group (3rd-7th grade) and the teens (8-12th grades) through learning repertoire, building musicianship and vocal fundamentals, and preparing for performances, all while fostering a supportive and joyful group environment founded in skilled pedagogy and best practices.

Role

& Responsibilities

The Lead Teacher works directly with the Kids group & Teens group to teach music and get them performance-ready, working closely with our Collaborative Pianist on rehearsals and musical preparation. The Lead Teacher also coordinates with our Choreographer and Directors to ensure the group’s work aligns with the S&S mission and broader artistic vision for the choir with an emphasis on the joy of performance and steeped in best practices and high-level pedagogy.

Qualifications
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with youth ages 8 to 18
  • Interest in working collaboratively with other skilled musicians and teachers to achieve high-level performance rooted in the organization’s mission and commitment to building community through The Arts.
Schedule
  • September through May, Wednesdays from 5:00-6:30
  • Extra rehearsals during tech week and performance
  • A handful of planning meetings over the summer
  • Rehearsals run at the Common Street Spiritual Center in Natick (Center)
  • Rehearsal is typically divided into 30 min instruction with kids, 30 min with teens and 30 min working with choreographer and directors
Performances
  • Holiday concert – December 11 and 12 (tentative)
  • Spring concert in early to mid-May, dates TBD, at Natick High School
