Profile of a Natick Educator

JOB GOAL: Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, oversee a classroom within a creative, community-oriented after school program site. In the absence of the Site Supervisor or Assistant Site Supervisor, the Coordinator may be asked to assist with the overall operation of the after school site.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Graduate or have a G.E.D.;
Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Preferred Experience:

• Three years or more of experience working with young children in an organized setting. Six months of administrative experience or three credits in management, administration, or staff supervision.
• Ability to lead large groups, manage crises, and communicate effectively with families.

Skills:

• Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
• Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
• Candidates must be flexible and collaborative
• Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth

Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)

• Follow and implement program safety procedures regarding sign-in and sign-out.
• Confirm arrival of all students each day; initiate Missing Child Procedure if a child does not arrive; and ensure that all children are signed out by an authorized parent/guardian at pick-up.
• Know or ensure that appropriate staff know the whereabouts of all children in assigned groups at all times.
• Be familiar with which children have epi-pens, food allergies, or other health concerns. Ensure that all appropriate measures are taken for their safety, including keeping allergy plans on file, and sharing health information with program staff, and making sure that epi-pens and inhalers are current and are carried with child when necessary.
• Ensure that each group has a stocked first aid kit available, and implement all health care/emergency procedures.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student injuries and incidents.
• Lead response in the event of an emergency.
• Alert appropriate staff members when unusual family or personal circumstances may affect student behavior or safety.
