Mechanical Engineer
We are currently seeking a Senior Vehicle Mechanical Engineer for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in Natick, MA. In this role you will work as part of a team to support existing consulting projects that involve the analysis of transportation accidents, mechanical failures, and the design of consumer and industrial products. You will have the opportunity to ultimately develop your own consulting practice and grow professionally within Exponent, whilst building specialized expertise in automotive design, performance, ADAS and autonomous vehicle technology or transportation accident reconstruction.
Responsibilities- Managing projects from initiation to completion
- Communicating project updates to team members, clients, and administrative staff
- Ensuring that Exponent meets deadlines and produces exceptional work products
- Identifying business development opportunities
- Setting up and executing various test programs, including full‑scale vehicle tests (crash, sled, handling) and component or control systems evaluations
- Developing specialized expertise in automotive technology, including ADAS and autonomous vehicle systems, or accident reconstruction
- Ph.D. or Master’s degree (M.S. or M.Eng.) in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering with 2+ years relevant work experience
- Familiarity with automotive systems and strong interest in vehicle technology
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship required
- Proven ability in scholarly or technical writing; record of published research or technical papers
- Field and/or lab measurement experience
- Experience working independently and collaboratively at an OEM, auto manufacturer, or consulting firm, managing priorities and deadlines
- Hands‑on experience in a garage, workshop, field, or laboratory setting involving vehicles or engineering instrumentation
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of dynamics, mechanical design, and 3D CAD (AutoCAD, Solid Works, or Rhino3D preferred)
- P.E. license or willingness to obtain a P.E. license
- Versatile, team‑oriented, willing to work overtime and travel as required
- Strong leadership and communication skills, able to synthesize technical information for specialists and non‑specialists
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Proven dedication to quality and accuracy
Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and given the opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Total compensation for this position includes base salary, bi‑weekly bonuses for high‑intensity efforts, an annual bonus, and a 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
Base salary range: USD $ – USD $ per year, based on experience and capabilities assessed during the interview process.
